Introduction of CBR Rasuwa

DISABLED CHILD DEVELPOMENT & REHABILITATION  PROGRAMME.  RASUWA. is a special education and care facility in Kalikasthan, Rasuwa District.   The mission of the facility concerns the rehabilitation of disabled children and is non-profitable, non-political, non-governmental organization established in 2005 (2062 B.S.) by a group of highly committed disabled people.  The executive committee is made up of disabled people from different sectors.  This organization is registered under the district government of Rasuwa. Rasuwa is a mountainous district; stunningly beautiful but in almost every way, under-developed.
Due to the poor social and economic conditions, Rasuwa has not progressed in education and other sectors.  On top of this, disabled people are negatively regarded by society.  Due to superstition, lack of education and poverty, disability is viewed as a curse; earned by sins committed in the previous life.  Disabled children are also considered a burden in an impoverished society where children are brought forth to provide support for their parents in old age.  The notion that people with disabilities have rights and opportunities on a par with other individuals is largely absent from the popular mindset, so at best, the disabled are treated as an objects of pity and charity. As such, they have to face huge hurdles to live with self-respect within the community.
Add unemployment and limited government programmes to the indigenous constraints and the disabled are effectively debarred from exercising their fundamental human rights and living a meaningful existence.  As national statistics show, very few disabled people benefit from the policies and laws of the government.

We are mainly working with the disabled children of poverty-stricken families, whose lives are further complicated by living in remote areas.  In a few cases, the children are orphans.  In most cases these children would not have been able to go to the village school due to inaccessibility, special facilities, lack of awareness in the parents and so on. Education has become inaccessible to the disabled children due to the lack of proper physical structure of school surrounding, roads and transportation.   All too often, there are cases of disabled people who are incarcerated or even shackled.  They may be subject to discrimination, oppression or even banishment from home.  Those who suffer from incontinence are not generally admitted into schools and without proper care, disabled people lead intollerable lives.
